On Saturday, November 5, 2016, Swim Without Limits held its first annual “Swim Fort De Soto” open-water 10K swim race. It took place at Fort De Soto Park in Pinellas County, southwest of St. Petersburg, Florida.
Summer Solutions was a proud sponsor of this fun, challenging, amazing event for open-water swim athletes. Our sponsorship included free Summer Solutions Swim Wipes for all participants. These are our specially formulated cleansing, deodorizing wipes designed for use after a swim when you can’t hop right in the shower.
It was a pleasure to work with event director David Miner of Swim Without Limits and the rest of his team. Thanks to the organization for their hard work in making this race happen and run so smoothly. And thanks to David for his kind words to us: “Thank you so much for sponsoring our events! You guys are great, and after a saltwater swim or kayak the Swim Wipes are great to clean off your face!”
About “Swim Fort De Soto”
The 6.5-mile swim went around three sides of the park and the Fort De Soto chain of islands. Participants were permitted as solo entrants and as 2-person or 3-person relays, with kayak escorts provided for solo swimmers for safety purposes. The race was open to US Masters Swimming members and athlete USA Swimming members.
For those who know this beautiful beach destination, the race began at the Fort De Soto Boat Ramp. The swimmers proceeded west through Bunces Pass, into the shimmering waters of the Gulf of Mexico. They then headed south beside the island, just off the white sand shore, to the pier, then around the island’s tip. The course then turned east and terminated at Shelter #14 in Fort De Soto Park.
Looking Forward to Next Year!
Next year’s annual race from Swim Without Limits will be “Swim Around Lido Key.” This 7-mile open-water swim will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017. Registration is already open. Find more information here. See you there!
